SILVER JEWELRY

We buy silver jewelry in all conditions whether it’s new, old, broken, damaged, vintage or antique. As long as it’s silver, we can buy it.

Most silver jewelry is sterling silver and should be stamped with a hallmark of either “.925” or “sterling.” Sterling is 92.5% silver. The other 7.5% metal generally is copper.

We can purchase your sterling silver jewelry with all the stones as well. Your jewelry may have turquoise or other semi-precious stones which we will factor in when determining your payout.

We can also consider paying more for popular silver items from Tiffany & Co, David Yurman, Judith Ripka, Lilly Barrack, Effy, and more, if we can verify the item's authenticity. Other popular items we purchase include Native American jewelry from designers such as Mark Chee and Louise Yazzie from the Navajo tribe. We purchase quite a bit of pieces designed by the Zuni Indian tribe as well.

If your jewelry is stamped “German Silver”, “E.P.N.S. (Electro Plated Nickel Silver), “Alpaca”, or “Nickel Silver”, you don’t have sterling silver, but rather you have an alloy of Nickel and copper with no silver. Unfortunately we don’t buy these items. If you can’t find the hallmarks on your jewelry, don’t worry. Bring it in and we will gladly test it for you at no cost.

WE BUY ANY SILVER OF PURITY .800 OR HIGHER

At Eastside Gold and Coin Exchange, we have customers bring in silver items of all kinds. The good news is, most silver products are made of a high grade of silver. So if you bring us any silver item, there is an excellent chance we will make you an offer!

TYPES OF SILVER ACCEPTED

We will take silver in just about any form. Here are a few things we accept:

  • Silver jewelry, with or without gemstones or settings
  • Silver Coins
  • Silver Bars or Bullion
  • Silverware (dining utensils)
  • Designer Costume Jewelry
  • Silver plated pocket watches
  • Types of Silver

Here are some different kinds of silver products we purchase, sorted by grade:

PURE SILVER

Pure Silver, also known as fine silver, is 99.99% pure. It is also known by its purity grade .999 or .9999. (These grades have the nicknames “3 nines” or “4 nines”.) Whenever silver is purchased as an investment (e.g. silver bars, rounds, or coins), this is the form that it takes. Usually, the purity rating is stamped on the item.

STERLING SILVER

Sterling silver has a purity rating of .925 and is 92.5% pure. It often carries a stamp or a hallmark that reads “925”. Silverware sets typically carry such a stamp, as do all accompanying products (knives, forks, spoons, serving trays, serving sets, samovars, tea sets, etc.). Some private mints (the Franklin Mint, for example) also offer many sterling silver products for sale. Certain high-end designers craft silverware patterns which fetch a higher price on the secondary market. Reed & Barton (Francis I), Buccellati (anything), Tiffany, and Georg Jensen are a few examples of such designers.

COIN SILVER

Coin silver is rated .900 and is 90% pure. Several US coins minted in 1964 or earlier were made of 90% silver. These include barber dimes, mercury dimes, roosevelt dimes, barber quarters, walking liberty quarters and washington quarters, barber half-dollars, walking liberty half dollars, commemorative half-dollars, franklin half-dollars and kennedy half-dollars. Also silver dollars like the Peace dollar, morgan dollar, and trade dollars are made of 90% coin silver.

OTHER SILVER COINS

As stated earlier, we buy any type of silver graded .800 (80%) or higher. Canadian silver dimes and quarters minted in 1967 and earlier are 80% pure silver. However, the same coins minted in 1968 are only 50% pure. Several American coins and foreign coins from that era are only 40% pure. For example, Half-dollars minted between 1965 and 1969 are 40% pure. So are Ike One Dollar coins minted between 1971 and 1976 at the San Francisco mint. Silver foreign coins in general can be a perplexing market for a novice. If you are unsure of what you have, give us a call or stop by. We are always happy to help you figure out what kind of coin you have, and its value.

SILVER COINS VS. SILVER ROUNDS OR BARS

A coin is a currency item minted by a sovereign nation. Some examples of silver coins include the United States Silver Eagle, the Canadian Maple Leaf, or the Chinese Panda. However, rounds and bars are minted by a private mint such as the Sunshine Mint, Johnson Matthey, or Engelhard. Coins do not always carry a mark of purity. Bars and rounds however, are investment-grade items, and will have a mark or stamp displaying the purity, metal type, and weight on each item. For example, a silver bar might have a stamp reading: “999, fine silver, 1 troy ounce”.

JEWELRY AND OTHER MISCELLANEOUS ITEMS

At Eastside Gold and Coin Exchange, we will buy any piece of silver jewelry of purity .800 or higher. However, we pay more for silver jewelry made by top designers such as David Yurman or Bulgari. Other silver products that command a high price include Mexican jewelry from the Taxco region, or items made by Native American designers, such as squash blossom necklaces from the Navajo or Zuni tribes.
